Protect Yourself from Abuse

A Protection from Abuse order (PFA), or "restraining order", is a legal tool designed to assist victims of domestic abuse and their children to keep themselves safe. The person who is being abused may request a temporary emergency order barring the abuser from having contact with the victim. A formal hearing will be conducted within 21 days. At that hearing, the judge may grant the order for up to two years.
